Mehmet Barlas, the editor-in-chief of Sabah Newspaper, died at the age of 81 at a private hospital where he had been receiving treatment for some time.

Mehmet Barlas, who was born in Ankara in 1942, earned his bachelor's degree in law from Istanbul University. While still a student, he began his journalism career with his father's Son News and progressed to professional journalism with Cumhuriyet. During his tenure as TRT General Manager, smail Cem served as a domestic and global news consultant. 


He was a writer and manager for several publications, including Günaydn, Cumhuriyet, Milliyet, Sabah, Zaman, AkÅŸam, and Yeni Afak. At TGRT, he was a daily news commentator. In 2000, Barlas published "The Period of Coups and Fights in Turkey," "Memoirs of Turgut zal" (2000), and "Negotiations on Turkey" in 2001. He co-created and hosted a news program with her daughter Ela Barlas in 2003. 


For a brief while in 2008, he was the main news presenter for ATV. On NTV, he co-created the Interpretation Difference show with Emre Kongar. On NTV Radio, he created and delivered the show "Makam Difference" with Ouz Haksever. Barlas was on the Board of Trustees of Okan University.


Mehmet Barlas was a father of two sons.
