Shirin David's previous album, "Bits Need Rap," was released about a year and a half ago. With "Smile," the 27-year-old rapper just returned from a musical hiatus. That's hardly surprising: her business portfolio can't just be her songs.

Shirin David still makes money from her ventures, and how much?

Let's begin with the most obvious: their music. More than 1.7 million monthly listeners speak a clear language: her solo songs and the two albums "Supersize" and "Bitches Need Rap" alone have generated well over 600 million Spotify streams.

Last year, the music distribution network igroovemusic established how much money German musicians may make through Spotify. The streaming service pays an average of 3398 euros per million streams, according to this.

In terms of special guests: Shirin David 2020 (alluding to a classic lyric by the Offenbach rapper) stated on the arrest warrant "Conan x Xenia" that far more than music pays its rent: "Half a mille is sold to Liquid as if it were nothing / So please, if not with rap, then with a hundred other businesses."

In reality, for a businesswoman like Shirin David, music projects should still be one of her least lucrative sources of income. Shirin David, for example, just admitted in a newly released XXL interview with Niko Backspin that the "supersize" era was not monetarily feasible for her at all.

The song "Liquid" might be seen as a reference to Shirin David's own scent. In 2019, the rapper and influencer released her self-titled fragrance, which was sold by Douglas. According to a Forbes report published towards the end of 2020, it had sold around 850,000 units. Calculating 20 to 25 euros for an inexpensive eau de parfum yields in sales in the low eight-digit (!) range. Of course, this is not her own profit, but the figure demonstrates Shirin's achievement.

Her first perfume, "Created by the Community," debuted two years ago. She disclosed a few years ago in an interview with "capital.de" that she was able to sell a good 550,000 bottles to ladies.

Nowadays, however, an entirely distinct, drinking liquid is considerably more prevalent.

Meanwhile, it appeared like the buzz surrounding their iced tea had gone down. We recall seeing photographs last year of multiple Dirtea cans purportedly being sold at exorbitant prices by supermarkets.

According to a story in the "Lebensmittel Zeitung" at the end of March, Shirin David's product is anything from a flop. While Capital Bra's "BraTee" had a significant dip in sales, Shirin's "Dirtea" triumphed. During the review period, the soft drink continued to expand by 6%.

Shirin David even uploaded a portion from the article in her Instagram story, complete with numbers: "Thank you everybody! "65 million 'Dirtea' cans have been consumed." Shirin's claim to be the market leader in "ice tea in cans" is not without reason, according to "Lebensmittel Zeitung." The turnover is in the upper eight-digit range if you figure 1.29 to 1.49 euros per can. She makes no mention of how much money she makes. However, the business may have paid off for them here as well.

Shirin also secured a significant advertising contract. However, their partnership with McDonald's by the end of 2022 was not met with unwavering support from their followers.

On the contrary, several individuals on social media questioned Shirin David's support for a corporation that promotes factory farming above sustainability and acted as a sponsor of the already contentious World Cup in Qatar. "I thought Shirin David stood for better values and principles," a clearly unhappy fan writes on her Instagram image. "Somehow I have in mind that she doesn't eat meat," another user says, referring to Shirin's previous commitment to animal welfare and vegetarianism. Among her posts, the hashtag "#liebenwirnicht" is frequently used.

Shirin also explains in the new Niko Backspin interview that she understands the reaction from her fans, but the next McDonald's co-op is coming up shortly. It is unknown how much money will be paid for the collaboration with the fast food company. McDonald's, as one of the world's largest corporations, is unlikely to have skimped on a transaction of this scale.

Speaking of controversy, in a more recent instance, substantial sections of her community chastised her for wearing genuine fur during her "Dirtea" ad. "I think a lot of things need context," Shirin David remarked on Instagram lately, unveiling her "Dirtea Talk" podcast.

According to the announcement, she will talk to people from different areas of her industry about private matters, but also about "insights into the industry". A monthly podcast episode is to be released on Spotify and YouTube with immediate effect.

It is unclear whether additional sponsors or advertising partnerships are involved. In any case, she gives her YouTube channel a new lease of life. Shirin, then 18, established the basis of her bright career on the video platform in 2014, although she has recently mainly utilized her channel for music videos.

Her YouTube channel received over two million views in the previous 30 days, according to the analytic tool Socialblade. The website puts the channel's annual sales at between 6,000 and just under 100,000 euros, with the amount varying substantially depending on the advertising friendliness of the videos. A shaky foundation for some really great pocket money.
