There’s been an explosion at an industrial park for chemical companies in Leverkusen.

There's been an explosion at an industrial park for chemical companies in German city Leverkusen. 


Officials have warned the public of Leverkusen of an extreme threat. People in the city have been told stay inside their home, turn off air-conditioners and keep their windows and doors closed.  


Two people have said to be seriously injured in the blast, five others are also reportedly missing.

Right now main roads around the site have been closed and drivers have been told to the area. Meanwhile an information hotline has been opened to address any public concerns.


The whole area around the city of Leverkusen in North Ryan Westphalia in the west of Germany is totally closed down now. Reports of sirens going off not only in the city but also in nearby towns. People are ordered to remain inside their home while the emergency services are trying to determine if there is any risk from the explosion.

Pictures shows that there's a huge plume of smoke has rose up which is covering a large area. According to officials the explosion took place in 9:40 AM (local time). 


Police and other emergency services are calling for those on the highways around the area to pull into one side or the other to create a rescue gate as they call in in Germany to allow more emergency services to arrive on the scene. 


There are tests being carried out on the air in the immediate vicinity and also in the surrounding area as well. 


The matter of tense that this area has the densest population in Germany as well as it's the most populous area of the country. Nearly 30,000 people work inside the chemical park which makes it one of the largest chemical park in Europe.
