In the early 1970s, his "Lovely Maid" made him renowned in Germany. Tony Marshall, an entertainer, pop and trained opera singer, died in Baden-Baden after a protracted illness.

Tony Marshall, a popular pop singer, has died. A spokesman said the 85-year-old died with his family on Thursday evening. Marshall had his breakthrough with the song "Schöne Maid" in 1971. The musician, who was a high-risk dialysis patient, has mostly avoided the public eye in recent years.

For the fans, Marshall was a lifelong entertainer who primarily scheduled hits. The Baden-Baden native passed an opera singer state test, could play four additional instruments besides the piano and violin, and sang in eight languages.

He was a family guy in private: the father of three children, grandfather and great-grandfather, he had been married to his childhood love Gaby for decades. Pascal and Marc, his kids, joined their father on travels. Marshall worked on his organization for persons with impairments alongside his daughter Stella.

Marshall got increasingly concerned about his health over the years. He had a pacemaker and was suffering from polyneuropathy, a neuropathic illness that reduced his capacity to move. Early in 2019, he had to be hospitalized for a short period of time. He later survived a corona infection that required him to visit a clinic as a high-risk patient, and he underwent emergency surgery in May 2022.

He has had to cancel concerts and appearances due to illness. He came in public less and less, despite the fact that the media was highly interested in his health, which Marshall found rather distressing. In 2021, however, he built a personal gallery in Gaggenau, Baden, containing images, trophies, medals, gold records, and other keepsakes.
