According to a statement released by Istanbul Airport Operator IGA, the "Istanbul Regional Airport Workshop"  kicked off with an opening speech given by IGA Istanbul Airport Airline and Cargo Marketing Director Majid Khan. This event was attended by 24 airport managers from Europe as well as officials from THY and TGA.

Majid Khan emphasized that they continue to invest in the future by taking a different approach at Istanbul Airport, despite the fact that airports have responded to the Kovid-19 epidemic by shrinking and reducing the number of personnel. He explained that airports have done this in order to save money.

It was stressed in the speeches that were given at the occasion that Istanbul Airport, which at the moment acts as a hub for flights to 300 different locations and is served by 71 different airlines, would welcome 11 new airlines and 26 new routes in the year 2021.

At the Istanbul Regional Airports Event, which brought attention to the necessity of increasing the new level of cooperation among all stakeholders with the recovery of aviation after the epidemic, it was emphasized that unrealistic targets should be avoided due to the conditions of the market. Additionally, global transfer centers and regional airports should be avoided in place of having long-distance routes in the target list for regional airports. The question of whether or not they would work together was brought up.

At the occasion, it was pointed out that the development of routes has become more vital than they have ever been before, while at the same time new forms of collaboration and cooperation in the aviation sector were being called for to ensure financial sustainability.

During the event, representatives from THY had one-on-one discussions with 24 regional airport authorities from Europe. During the presentations that THY and TGA gave, they discussed the significance of Turkey and Istanbul for the tourist business. At the occasion, it was also revealed that THY would analyze the research on additional destinations that have the potential to establish direct flights in the future. These new destinations were discussed in more detail at the event.

It was pointed out that THY has more than 100 destinations in Europe, but in order to expand its long-distance network from new destinations in Europe, it needs to increase the number of transfers that it operates through IGA Istanbul Airport. As a result, it is essential that all relevant decision makers get together to discuss this situation. In addition, it was pointed out that doing so is of utmost significance while doing research on the market that would be served by THY's future network.

At the event where it was stated that the airline industry always has a potential and therefore it should be closer to the market and stakeholders, it was emphasized that it is very important for Turkey to direct tourism to Istanbul and the destinations in Europe that have not been visited very much. Specifically, it was stated that it is very important for Turkey to direct tourism to destinations in Europe that have not been visited very much. At the conclusion of the event, photographs were taken to serve as mementos.
